The Great Small Source

It is a known fact that most of the things that exist have a beginning. However, it is not everything that exist whose beginning we are able to explain or understand. Further on I would like to argue that what we understand to be the beginning is actually limited, shaped by the bounds that have been set by the information and environment that one has been exposed to and may not actually the beginning that we think is the beginning. Understanding this concept is important in setting yourself free from the limitations that are set by theories that constrain or limit your ability to explore and discover something new, unique and useful, which no one but you have thought of.

In Zambia, we have the fourth largest river in Africa that makes a journey of about 2,700-kilometer from its source in a small protected forest. It begins as an insignificant little spring in the corner of north-west Zambia in the Mwinilunga District and bubbles up between the roots of a tree, very close to the border where Zambia, Angola and Zaire (now known as The Democratic Republic of Congo) meet. It’s surrounded by a rich Miombo woodland and a strip of Mushitu forest. https://www.zambiatourism.com/destinations/rivers/zambezi/, https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/source-of-the-zambezi

The River is a marvel regardless of whether you sight it from the might Mosi-oa-Tunya (Victoria) falls, the Kariba dam, the vast plains of the Barotse Land , the confluence with the Luangwa river or from the source itself. If you are yet to physically see the Zambezi river, I would urge you to make plans to view it and personally guarantee that you will have an exhilarating lifetime experience.

The Great River is not an Isolated water body but has got many tributaries, some small and others are big rivers on their own. These include, the Kabompo,  Lungwebungu , Luanginga, Luena, Lui, Lumbe, Njoko, Luangwa, Kafue, shire  http://www.warma.org.zm/catchments-zambia/zambezi-catchment-2/

Great credit needs to be given to the people that took time to explore, research and find the source of the river. However, I would like to state that they transferred their limitation on most of us to agree that the little spring is the beginning of the Zambezi river, I would like to argue that there is beginning for the little spring somewhere that remains unexplored either due to technological challenges or  the explorers focusing just on the surface waters or other limitations that I don’t know. I think it forms a great opportunity for those with an adventurous and explorative urge to investigate further.

Like the Great Zambezi River most of the things that exist begin in an insignificant small way. Let me also not forget to stress that size, is not standard as we have been meant to believe,

·Starting small requires less minimal resources

When you are starting you will most likely not have all the resources (Time, training, machinery, capital) at your disposal. Instead of allowing this to be an inhibition starting small will help you to focus on how you can manipulate the little resources that are at your disposal to generate the desired outcome.

·Starting small prevents chocking

No one puts the entire chicken in the mouth all at once , instead we break it down into smaller pieces, starting small helps you to do just that and prevents you from choking. You maybe failing to maintain your fitness program all because you are trying to do too much at the beginning

·Starting small grows your confidence and builds your momentum

Through repeated action the strength and muscle is gained. This enables you take on bigger challenges and deal with threats or distractions you encounter.

The Tributaries that flow into the river Zambezi entail that nothing great may come from isolation, we depend on each other to achieve greatness. Repeated consultation and networking are key to one developing and being successful at whatever you are pursuing. Some of the tributaries of the Zambezi river are unknown however, they make very significant contribution to its greatness. You should not discount advice, feedback that you get from people that you feel have no track record or experience in your area of focus. Even negative feedback is useful for something.

Kakula

Welcome to my blog

I greatly appreciate you for taking time to visit and read my blog.

Starting something usually presents challenges !

The challenge(s) at times may seem trivial, moderate, or even insurmountable, regardless they determine whether one make progress, regresses or gets stark.

A common saying from a Chinese proverb states that “a Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step “I would like to add on that the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first thought. When you search or google the word “thought” you will find this definition: “(1) an idea or opinion produced by thinking or occurring suddenly in the mind (2) the action or process of thinking.” Synonyms include but not limited to, idea, notion, concept, conviction, opinion, view, impression, image, perception, mental picture, assumption, funny feeling, hunch. I do not have the scientific qualification or expertise to define a thought beyond that. Ralph Lewis M.D in an article “What Actually Is a Thought? And How Is Information Physical?” says that “A thought is a representation of something. A representation is a likeness—a thing that depicts another thing by having characteristics that correspond to that other thing. For example, a picture, image, imprint or mold of an object is a representation of that object.”https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/finding-purpose/201902/what-actually-is-thought-and-how-is-information-physical

The first step maybe visible to onlookers but, the first thought is not noticed. It occurs deep in the mind where no one else can reach, apart from the person that has the thought or idea. This thought, creates what I would term as a struggle within oneself, a sudden decision has to be made on whether the thought that has occurred in the mind is one that should be kept within or let out. The challenge is not unique to certain individuals, it is one that every person faces daily regardless of the age, sex, class, academic, social, economic, or political status. It is the great battle I have had to deal with embarking on this journey.

Kakula is a term in my native Bemba language that might either mean “he/she/it has grown, set free or let loose, builder or unifier” It is amazing how one word one thought can mean so much. I chose this as a Title not just for my first blog but also for the blog itself as it reflects the current and future.

I have to deal with my current challenge(s) within me first, setting my thoughts and myself free, I need to let loose , build strength and courage to share what at times may seem, exciting, adventurous, dangerous, absurd, uninteresting, unacceptable, embarrassing, unimaginable and so on. As I share, my expectation is that the thoughts and thought process will grow and mature. Having begun this journey with you I hope, we grow and mature together as everyone is free to give feedback, ask and add on to the thought(s), idea(s), comment(s) that will be shared.

You may be having challenging thoughts of your own regarding; career path(s) ,business set up, retirement and exit strategies, getting into or staying or getting out of a relationship, adopting or having a child, confessing or revealing a secret, dealing with setbacks, Improving your outlook or personality, making a lifestyle shift, the list of thoughts  is endless. Kukula is the right place for you as my Blogs will be from real life personal experiences of the author and others.

While it is true that a plant may grow in the wild without being natured and cared for; chances for growth are greatly enhanced when the plant is deliberately natured, cared for and watered. I encourage you to nature, care, and water those thoughts and ideas, “Kakula”, be free, let loose and let it grow. In time you will reap the benefits.
